Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.
Deuteronomy 6:5
God loved human beings enough to allow them to have a free will to choose. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Moses had summoned all of Israel and was giving them the commands that God had given for His people to follow. The first and foremost law was that God’s people would love Him. Their love for God was to be all-encompassing, passionate, consuming love, involving all their beings.
You and I are created by God and for God. We are created to live out His glorious purposes, in and through us. If we live for Him, we obey Him. And the foremost command is that we love Him, wholeheartedly, with all our being. We are to love God with our heart, which involves our emotions and feelings. Our thoughts and choices are to be guided and driven by our love for God. The use of our God-given resources needs to be directed by our love for God.
Love is an act of the will; it is a choice. We don’t love because we feel like loving the person. We love someone because we choose to love. So, what or whom do you truly love? A good way to gauge your true love is to start noticing the first thought on your mind when you wake up each morning, also the last thought before you fall asleep. The one thing that occupies your mind would be the thing or person you love the most. Is it God?
How much of your love for God did those around you see in you last week?
Lord, give me increasing love for you and may it be evident to those around me, I pray.
