Called to Walk (Micah 6:1-8) DISCIPLESHIP

Published on Jul 14, 2025

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. – Micah 6:8

The prophet Micah was very confident in his call and knew that God had filled him with his Spirit to declare their sin to Israel (3:8). Micah pictures a courtroom with Israel on trial before God. The Lord had a complaint against Israel. As Israel stepped into the witness box, God asked Israel to testify against Him. He asked, what have I done to you? God had not only done them no evil but rather He had done Israel immense good.

Israel’s response is one of bitterness and resentment. Almost like Israel is asking ‘what exactly is it you want from me?’ (v6-7). And the Lord said three things.

God calls His people to be just and fair in how we deal with people. Then the Lord says, love mercy. Treat people with the measure of mercy that you want the Lord to treat you with.

And finally, the Lord says, walk humbly with your God. Spurgeon says, “True humility is thinking rightly of thyself, not meanly. When you have found out what you really are, you will be humble, for you are nothing to boast of. To be humble will make you safe. To be humble will make you happy. To be humble will make music in your heart when you go to bed. To be humble here will make you wake up in the likeness of your Master by-and-by.”

How is your walk with the Lord today?

Lord, help me grow in my walk with you each day, I pray.
