Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you, before you were born, I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” – Jeremiah 1:5

Though the Bible does not specifically address the issue of abortion, the Scripture is abundantly clear about God’s view of life and its value.
In Jeremiah, the Bible tells us that God knows us even before He formed us in the womb. Each of us is made with a purpose. Not even one of us is an accident. The Lord says He has a plan and a purpose for each one of us (Jeremiah 29:11).
The psalmist in Psalm 139:13-16 talks about how intently God is involved in the creation of every human being in the womb. And in Exodus 21:22-25 we see that the exact same penalty is prescribed for someone who causes the death of a baby in the womb as for someone who commits murder. Thus, God considers a baby in the womb as precious and valuable as a full-grown adult.
And so, for a Christian, abortion is not a matter of a woman’s right to choose as it is a matter of life and death of a human being made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26-27, 9:6).The Bible makes it clear that God values life very highly. Every life is precious. And the Lord Himself is involved in the formation of every life in the womb. If that be true, then whose decision is it to be really? Do you and I have the right to take life that God has created?
Lord, for times I have not regarded life as precious, forgive me I pray.
