The swift cannot flee nor the strong escape. In the north, by the River Euphrates, they stumble and fall. – Jeremiah 46:6
God is God of all nations. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
The book of Jeremiah mostly deals with the judgement God would bring on Judah. And yet, in these few chapters, Jeremiah brings word about the judgement on the Gentile nations. God’s sovereignty is over all the earth and not restricted to just Judah. God did not ignore or neglect the Gentile nations. He would righteously judge each of them too.
Jeremiah begins his prophetic vision about the nations, with Egypt. God called the proud Egyptian army to this battle, bringing them for the purpose of judging them.
This battle between Egypt and Babylon was to take place on the banks of the Euphrates. Though Egypt came to battle with Babylon expecting to crush them, the Babylonians rout them completely. Jeremiah could see the captains of the Babylonian army calling out orders, commanding all their soldiers to pursue and utterly defeat the retreating Egyptians.
God is fair and the true Judge. Jesus says his judgment is just, for He seeks not to please Himself but His Father who sent Him (John 5:30). God is impartial in His judgment (1 Peter 1:17). The Scriptures are also very clear that God will punish all who, do not obey Him (2 Thessalonians 1:8). But God gives eternal life to those who, by persistence in doing good, seek glory, honour, and immortality (Romans 2:7).
God will judge everyone. And He is fair and righteous in His judgment. Are you persisting in being faithful in serving your Lord and Master that you may have eternal life with Him?
Lord, may I be found faithful in serving you, I pray.
