The blood will be a sign for you on the houses where you are, and when I see the blood, I will pass over you. No destructive plague will touch you when I strike Egypt. – Exodus 12:13

From the Pharaoh to the servant, every Egyptian lost their first born that night, including the first born of their cattle. The sorrow and loss of the Egyptians was immeasurable. Pharaoh finally relented. He agreed to let Moses lead the Israelites out of Egypt.
In the Israelites camp, however, it was a time of hope, deliverance, and new beginnings. The Israelites were finally leaving to go and worship God in freedom. Their centuries-old life of slavery was ending.
God had very specific instructions for His people as they prepared to leave. Every Israelite home was to select a perfect lamb with no blemish, kill it and put its blood on the doorframes of their houses. That blood was the sign for the Lord as He passed through and struck down the Egyptians. The Israelites were to be dressed for departure and the lamb was to be roasted and eaten with haste. They were to remember this night, observe and teach it through the generations. Passover is a reminder that salvation requires the shedding of blood. For New Testament believers, the shed-blood of Jesus earned our salvation. We no more need to make any blood sacrifices for our sins. We only need to believe in the Lord Jesus, to be saved. As John 1:12 says, yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God. Have you believed in the Lord Jesus?
