Then, why is abortion so rampant today? Research shows that over 95 percent of the abortions performed today involve women who simply do not want to have a baby. Only less than 5 percent of abortions are for the reasons of rape, incest, or because of risk to the mother’s life.
A closer look reveals that the 95 percent of women who don’t want to have the baby are driven by fear. Fear that one is too young or immature to have a baby. Fear of not having the required resources to take care of the baby. Fear that the arrival of the baby will require too many adjustments. Fear that the father will not provide the needed support. And finally, the fear that one will not be able to handle another baby with the babies she already has. Fear causes women to take this irrevocable step of putting an end to the life that is growing within them.
Life is a gift from God and is not ours to take. The child forming in the womb is very much a life and not just a blob of flesh, as some would have us believe. Irrespective of the difficult situations we find ourselves in, we are to turn to God. He will help us if we turn to Him. We are to choose Him and life over our fear.
How will you help someone you love, value life and choose life, over their fear?
Help me Lord, to always choose life over my fear, I pray.
