It is good to praise the Lord and make music to your name, O Most High, proclaiming your love in the morning and your faithfulness at night. – Psalm 92:1-2

This is the only psalm titled, the Song for the Sabbath. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

Praise is the business of the Sabbath. God’s work and rest is the cause for the Sabbath. And so, praising Him is the focus for Sabbath. The Sabbath must be a day, for not only holy rest, but also for holy work.

This psalm begins with a simple yet profound statement. It is good to give thanks or praise the Lord. It is our duty, our tribute due to our great God. We are unjust, if we withhold praise rising from our hearts and lips.

The psalmist then moves on to suggest how we can express our worship. We are to make music to the name of God. Music is an integral part of God’s plan for worship. There is great power and impact in music. It is a wonderful way to express our love and adoration to God.

Finally, the psalmist says we are to worship Him when we rise and when we go to sleep and all the times in between. We are to praise God through the good times of sunshine and through dark and difficult times. Praise is to be continually on our mouths.

An attitude of gratitude keeps our perspective straight and keeps us from a critical, whining spirit. Giving thanks to God sets an example to those watching us.

What is keeping you from praising and giving thanks to God every day and night?

Lord, give me a heart of worship that gives thanks to you every day, I pray.
