Not Too Young (2 Chronicles 34:14-33) OBEDIENCE

Published on Aug 5, 2025

Because your heart was responsive, and you humbled yourself before God when you heard what he spoke against this place and its people, and because you humbled yourself before me and tore your robes and wept in my presence, I have heard you, declares the Lord. – 2 Chronicles 34:27

Josiah was a godly king, though he was the son of King Amon and grandson of King Manasseh, two of the wickedest kings of Judah. The Bible says, ‘he did what was right in the eyes of the Lord and followed completely the ways of his father David, not turning aside to the right or to the left (2 Kings 22:2).

Josiah raised money to repair the temple, and during the repairs the high priest, Hilkiah found the Book of the Law and read it to Josiah, who tore his clothes, a sign of mourning and repentance (v11). Josiah called for a time of national repentance. He led the people in making a covenant with the Lord to keep all His commands and testimonies with all his heart and soul. The people followed him. (2 Kings 23:3).

The temple was cleansed and the high places demolished. Josiah restored the observance of the Passover (2 Kings 23:2–23) and removed mediums and witches from the land. The judgment on Judah because of what the evil King Manasseh had done, was delayed because of Josiah’s godly life and leadership (2 Kings 22:20).

Josiah was a strong positive influence though he came to the throne as a child.

You are not too young to live a committed, obedient life to the Lord.

Lord, help me love and obey and be a blessing to those around me, I pray.
