Obedient Disobedience (Daniel 6:1-28) INTEGRITY

Published on Sep 15, 2025

Now when Daniel learned that the decree had been published, he went home to his upstairs room where the windows opened toward Jerusalem. Three times a day he got down on his knees and prayed, giving thanks to his God, just as he had done before. – Daniel 6:10

Daniel distinguished himself from the other officials. And so, King Darius intended to set him above the entire kingdom. Daniel shined above the other officials because he had an excellent spirit. This was more than what those leaders could bear. Daniel had a good attitude in his work and life, and this made him the object of attack.

Try as they might, the officials could find no fault with Daniel. And they finally concluded that there was no way to get at Daniel, except through the law of God (v5). And so, they come up with a devious plan to trap him, where they suggested the king should issue a decree that anyone who worships or bows down to any god other than him, should be put into the lion’s den.

The decree didn’t change anything for Daniel. He continued to get on his knees and pray to God, three times a day. And that was just what the officials needed and informed the king. The king was forced to implement the decree. He reluctantly put Daniel in the lion’s den. But as we know, God came through for Daniel and shut the mouths of the lions.

Daniel did break the king’s law, but he did not go against the king or against the king’s best interests. Daniel is an example of obedient disobedience. He was preserved through faith.

What is preserving you?

Lord, give me an excellent spirit like Daniel, I pray.
