Do not boast about tomorrow, for you do not know what a day may bring. – Proverbs 27:1

Solomon  cautions against the human tendency to be overly confident in what the future holds. While the fact is that you and I don’t know what the future holds. We are not even able to control what will happen in the next half hour.

There are some of us who are tempted to consult different medium of astrology, tarot cards or people who claim to be able to tell what our future holds. But the Bible is clear that we are not to try and figure out our future (Leviticus 19:31). We are to trust God with our futures.

Spurgeon said, “To know the good might lead us to presumption, to know the evil might tempt us to despair. Happy for us is it that our eyes cannot penetrate the thick veil which God hangs between us and tomorrow, that we cannot see beyond the spot where we now are, and that, in a certain sense, we are utterly ignorant as to the details of the future. We may, indeed, be thankful for our ignorance.”

This is not, however, to say that we are not to plan wisely for the future. We are to use our God-given wisdom and resources to make wise choices about our future. At the same time, we are cautioned against over-confidence in one’s ability to control the future. Only God holds our future. So, we are called to live and plan our lives wisely in total God-confidence and not self or people confidence.

How will you reflect your God-confidence about your future, to those around you?

Lord, may I humbly trust you completely, even about my future, I pray.
