One Thing (Psalm 27:1-14)  COMMITMENT

Published on Apr 15, 2025

One thing I ask from the Lord, this only do I seek; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to gaze on the beauty of the Lord and to seek Him in His temple. – Psalm 27:4

David is in trouble, deep trouble. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

Like many psalms, King David wrote this one from a season of trouble. He was surrounded by difficult and scary people and situations. And yet, David was not afraid. That’s not because he was not aware of the troubles but because he chose to fix his eyes away from the problems and on the one, complete solution. He fixed his eyes on God. His desire, his purpose, his aim, was not so much a solution to his many problems, rather it was God.

David had one request of the Lord. With all his many problems, you would think the one thing he asks of God would to a solution to his problems, or the end of his enemies etc. But David had a very different and rather unique one thing that he wanted from the Lord. He wanted to be able to dwell in the house of the Lord! David chose to take his eyes off the problems that he could see, to focus his gaze on Him that he could not really see, but could experience.

Did David actually mean that he would just keep living in the temple? No! David is saying, I want to live my life, wherever I may be, whatever else I may be doing, constantly aware and conscious of the presence of God, thinking about Him, fellowship with Him, living with Him.

David was determined to do all it took to seek the Lord, all the days of his life. David just wanted the privilege of being in God’s presence, to gaze upon Him.

Each one of us face tough situations on a regular basis. If there was one thing that you could ask of the Lord, what would it be?

Lord may you increasingly be my focus and desire, I pray.
