And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” – Esther 4:14
From orphan to a queen. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Esther, an orphan, young Jewish girl won the heart of Xerxes, King of Persia. She became queen in place of Vashti. This victory and position came with responsibility. Her people, the Jews, were under the threat of annihilation, thanks to the pride and arrogance of Haman, the Agagite. Mordecai, her uncle, calls her to act on behalf of her people reminding her maybe she came to her position for this very purpose.
The lives of the Jews in the kingdom rested on Esther’s action. She needed to present the needs of the Jewish people to the King and get him to repeal the decree that threatened their very lives.
Esther displays great wisdom, discernment, and courage in dealing with the situation. She first calls for three days of fasting and prayer by all the Jews, including herself to seek the Lord’s wisdom for the matter. Then she invites the king and Haman to a banquet. The king is pleased with her and is willing to give her up to half of his kingdom. But Esther invites them to a second banquet the next day.
On the second day, Esther presents her request to the king, saying that she and her people have been sold to be killed and annihilated by Haman. She requests that this order is repealed. The king is furious and is quick to act. He takes immediate action to stop this cruel order.
Esther rose to the task for which she was positioned. What is the task that God has for you, where He has placed you today?
Lord, help me live out the calling you have for me, I pray.
