The book of Chronicles begins with the genealogies of all the tribes of Israel. Each one was recorded by name, including the Levites. David appointed the temple musicians, people specifically for the task of music in the house of the Lord. The Bible says these men ministered to the Lord. Worship through music is a ministry; to be structured and organized. The worship of God was a very important part of Israel’s life as a nation. And music had an important role. The Bible records the songs of Miriam, Moses, Hannah, and many others.
Music is a positive and powerful tool that can bless and help in worshipping God. The book of Psalms is the songbook of the Bible and a wonderful example of the right way to use music in worshipping God. Music can be a way to praise God and express our gratitude to Him for all that He does for us. The right kind of songs can be a powerful tool for spiritual teaching (Colossians 3:16).
Music can be a very powerful tool in relaxation. David was very skilful in playing the harp. His music ‘refreshed’ King Saul (1 Samuel 16). Music in the Bible is widely used for consecrating hearts unto the Lord. Music is also a very powerful tool to pass on faith from one generation to another (Psalm145:4-5).
