The Lord said to Moses. – Numbers 5:1
The next phase begins. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Now that the people were all numbered and organized, God moves to prepare His people. Preparation to move into the Promised Land involved being pure.
The Lord gives Moses instructions about different ways people were to make themselves pure. They were to remove from among the people, those who were ritually unclean (v1-4), they were to pay restitution to those they had offended (v5-10) and they were given a way to resolve marital distrust and jealousy (v11-31). In all of this, God’s purpose was that His people would be pure and set apart from the idolatrous cultures around them. God gave great importance to preparing His people. He brought the Israelites from a disorganized mass of former slaves to a disciplined nation ready for battle now.
Preparation to do God’s work properly takes time. God gives different tasks to different people, but every one of us is to take the Gospel to others. We are also called to prepare to worship and to serve Him. But we need to prepare our hearts so that we can serve Him.
We are called to be holy as He is holy. If God’s people are to be in fellowship with Him and useful in His service, they must be pure in heart. Disharmony with God or with people makes spiritual victories impossible. We are to be humble and quick to repent when the Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin. Our lives are to be pure, in thoughts, words, and deeds.
Are you preparing your heart daily to be useful to the Lord?
Lord, cleanse me and make me pure, I pray.
