Quiet Strength (Isaiah 30:1-18) KNOW YOUR GOD

Published on Jul 22, 2025

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “In repentance and rest is your salvation, in quietness and trust is your strength, but you would have none of it. – Isaiah 30:15

Woe to an obstinate nation. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

This chapter begins with the Lord’s declaration of woe on Israel. Woe to them because they are obstinate. They seek man’s help instead of God’s. They carry out plans that are not the Lord’s and so they heap sin upon sin on themselves. (v1).

To be obstinate is to stubbornly refuse to change one’s opinion or chosen course of action. Israel had opportunity to experience God’s protection and provision. And yet, time and again, they seem to choose to seek man’s help, make their own plans, refusing to turn to the Lord. Now does that ring a bell somewhere? Is our attitude very different from the Israelites’?

The Lord continues by saying repentance, quietness, and trust are the solutions to all of Israel’s problems.

Repentance is to regret for past wrongs and commit to change for the better. It takes humility. Unrepentance is like cholesterol in the arteries blocking blood flow; it clogs our relationship with the Lord.

Have you noticed that when we are wronged, fearful or worried, we feel compelled to act?  We feel the need to do or say something. We want to justify or fight back. And yet, the Lord says to be quiet and to trust Him is where our strength lies.

How can you display your repentant and trusting heart today?

Lord, help me to quietly trust you through my day, I pray.
