Refiner’s Fire (Malachi 3:1-5) FAITH WALK

He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver. – Malachi 3:3

Malachi, the final book in the Old Testament, is an oracle.| WATCH ON YOUTUBE

God is warning His people through Malachi to turn back to God. God pronounces His justice and the promise of His restoration through the coming Messiah. Four hundred years of silence ensues, ending with a similar message from God’s next prophet, John the Baptist, proclaiming, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near” (Matthew 3:2).

And Malachi says, He will sit as a refiner and a purifier of silver. What a comfort to know that the Lord Himself will sit as the refiner. He does not give this task to even the angels. He may give the angels charge over us, but our purification is only done by Him. And the Bible says He sits as the refiner.

The sitting posture reflects patience. The refiner is in no hurry. He is close to the silver that he is refining. He personally takes time to carefully work with the silver to burn away the dross. He refines until all the dross is burnt away and He can see his image clearly in the molten silver.

“If any of you, my hearers, are seeking the Lord at this time, I want you to understand what it means: you are seeking a fire which will test you and consume much which has been dear to you. We are not to expect Christ to come and save us in our sins, He will come and save us from our sins; therefore, if you are enabled by faith to take Christ as a Savior, remember that you take Him as the perjurer  the purifier, for it is from sin that He saves us.”

Purify my heart Lord, and may I reflect you, I pray.
