Rock That Is Higher Than I (2 Samuel 15:13-37) DISAPPOINTMENT

Then David said to all his officials who were with him in Jerusalem, “Come! We must flee, or none of us will escape from Absalom. We must leave immediately, or he will move quickly to overtake us and bring ruin on us and put the city to the sword.” – 2 Samuel 15:14

Absalom, David’s son, worked carefully and intentionally. He was impatient for the throne. He stole the hearts of the people with his cunningness and carefully cultivating an exciting and enticing image. And soon under the guise of fulfilling a vow, he left for Hebron. He instead went and conspired against his own father, David and declared himself as king. David was forced out of the kingdom and away from the Tabernacle. What a sad day.

In the pain of being forced to flee for his life, and the disappointment of being betrayed by his own son, King David penned Psalm 62. Huge waves of trouble washed over him, and he found himself submerged, his head and heart and all. His deep pain was too much for him to bear. He cried in anguish to the Lord, asking to be led to the Rock that is higher than him, his God, his salvation, his hope.

Loneliness, rejection, and hurt are real. We all go through times when those closest to us, turn against us. The pain is almost unbearable and disappointment and grief wash over our souls.

Would you, like David, turn to the Rock that is higher, that can be your safe place too?

Heavenly Father, lead me through my pain, to you, my Rock, that is higher than I, I pray.
