Stand and Build (Ezekiel 22:23-31) PRAYER

Published on Sep 3, 2025

I looked for someone among them who would build up the wall and stand before me in the gap on behalf of the land, so I would not have to destroy it, but I found no one. – Ezekiel 22:30

The image of the wall connects back with the false and weak wall of the false prophets just a few verses before this (v28). The false prophets build by smearing whitewash. God looked for a man to bring strength, stability, and security to Israel but found no one.

God was looking for a man of prayer, like Abraham, Moses, and David. God looked for one who would, through prayer, stand in the gap between a Holy God and His disobedient, rebellious, profane people. God found no one in Ezekiel’s time, but fortunately, He did find the man to stand in the gap, Jesus Christ. He is the One who ever lives to pray for His people (Hebrews 7:25).

The Bible says the end of all things is near. And every follower of Christ is called to stand in the gap and build the wall. We are to pray earnestly for the lost in our nations. The enemy is on a warpath, like a roaring lion, looking for those he can devour.  Therefore, we are called to be alert and of sober mind and pray (1 Peter 5:8).

Sometimes, when things look so hopeless and wasted in the world around us, we get discouraged and give up. But despite what it looks like, however hopeless it seems, we need to keep praying. Nothing is too hard for God. He will answer our prayer and every nation will be changed!

Will you stand in the gap?

Lord, help me be diligent in praying for my nation, I pray.
