“Truly I tell you,” Jesus said to them, “no one who has left home or wife or brothers or sisters or parents or children for the sake of the kingdom of God will fail to receive many times as much in this age, and in the age to come, eternal life. – Luke 18:29-30

Jesus reminded him about keeping the law. The man’s response shows that he believed he had kept the law. Jesus perceived that he was misguided and empty. He responded to this man in love, says Mark 10:21. Jesus challenged the man to love God more than money and material things. The man failed this challenge.
Essentially, this man was an idolater: he loved money and material things more than God. It seemed like he had climbed to the top of the ladder of success, only to find his ladder leaned against the wrong wall.
The word ‘disciple’ means a follower, one who learns from their teacher.
Jesus calls us to be active disciples who will go on to discover the richness of Christian life. Christian discipleship means giving top priority to Jesus in our life. Nobody or nothing should come between Christ and the disciple. Christ is to be above family, relationships and all that we possess. We, and all that we have, are to be at His disposal.
Disciples are willing to do whatever Jesus wants, being sure that His way is always the best. And when we do, Jesus promises us immeasurable rewards in this life and the next. Would you say that you and all that you have is at the Lord’s disposal?
Lord help me worship you alone, I pray.
