On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick…. For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” – Matthew 9:12-13
Jesus was born and lived as a human. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
As a child, Jesus lived and grew as the son of a Jewish carpenter.
He lived through all of life’s normal experiences. He knew hunger, thirst, need, pain, loneliness, and rejection. He was even tempted by Satan for forty days. And yet He did not sin.
Jesus walked and lived with ordinary people. At the beginning of His ministry, Jesus called twelve ordinary men to be His disciples, some fisherfolk, some even tax collectors. Levi was one of the twelve that Jesus called and he was a tax collector.
As Levi sat at his tax booth that day, Jesus called him to follow Him. Levi’s response was decisive and immediate. He left everything and followed Jesus. In his joyful response to Jesus, Levi arranged a banquet for Jesus at his home. The Pharisees and Sadducees who saw this, were quick to criticize and judge. They questioned why Jesus would eat and drink with sinners. And it was in response to their criticism that Jesus replied saying that He came to the sick, the sick at heart and not for those who are righteous.
The Bible is very clear that all have sinned and have fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 2:23). That there is no one who is righteous, no not one (Romans 3:10). And so Jesus came to save each and every one of us.
Has Jesus healed you from the sin-sickness in your heart? What are you waiting for?
I need the healing that you alone can bring, Lord, heal me I pray.
