So the wall was completed on the twenty-fifth of Elul, in fifty two days. – Nehemiah 6:15

Nehemiah began  by assessing and planning the work involved to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. He then called together the people and explained the plan. The people supported Nehemiah and were willing to do all that he said. Nehemiah wisely delegated work to the people, along the wall. They began the work of rebuilding the walls though they faced much opposition.

Sanballat, Tobiah, and Geshem were three enemies of the Jews. They were very unhappy to see that Nehemiah had come to lead the work of rebuilding the wall. They made several attempts to block the work of the Jews. They mocked and ridiculed them. They suggested they were rebelling against the king. But Nehemiah encouraged and led the people to go ahead. Though Sanballat and his friends used several ploys to disrupt the work, they failed. Nehemiah and his team continued their work, with their swords by their sides. Though under pressure, they worked together unfazed, encouraged and strengthened in the Lord. And they completed the work in a record time of fifty-two days.

Nehemiah wisely led the people to complete this stupendous task in the least time possible. Nehemiah was selfless and willing to work hard. Oppositions were real, but he did not rely on his own strength. His focus was the Lord and all he did was saturated in prayer. And God used him mightily for His glorious purposes.

What is your attitude to the work that the Lord has called you to do?

Lord, help me serve you with all my heart, only to glorify you, I pray.
