Mordecai the Jew was second in rank to King Xerxes, preeminent among the Jews, and held in high esteem by his many fellow Jews because he worked for the good of his people and spoke up for the welfare of all the Jews. – Esther 10:3
Mordecai was a kind and a good man. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
Esther’s uncle, Mordecai, chose to take her in when her parents died and took care of her, like his own daughter. When he heard of the king’s decree calling for young women to be brought to the palace for the king to choose from, as a replacement for Queen Vashti, he was quick to enroll Esther. The king chose Esther as his queen.
Mordecai stayed close to the palace and kept an eye on Esther. One such day, he overheard two guards Bigthana and Teresh conspire to assassinate the king. Mordecai’s quick action to inform Esther who in turn informed the king, saved the king’s life when the report was investigated and found to be true (2:19-23).
Mordecai was keenly involved in ensuring the safety of his people, the Jews. When Haman drew up the evil plan of destroying all the Jews, he enlisted Queen Esther’s help to repeal the decree. He guided and encouraged her to use her good offices for the good of her people. The Jews were saved when Esther was able to help the king see through the cruel plot that Haman had hatched. Mordecai was a powerful mentor and guide to Esther. He was a blessing not just to his niece, but his people too. He is remembered as one who worked for the good of his people.
How will you be remembered?
Lord, may all I do and say honor you and bless those around me, I pray.
