Published on Sep 7, 2025

I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. – Ezekiel 36:26-27

There is to be a radical change. From the law working from outside in, God promised a new heart to work from inside out. God says He would take the heart of stone out and replace it with a new heart of flesh.

A heart of stone implies a heart that is hardened by sin. An inflexible and stubborn heart that is not receptive to God’s Word or Spirit’s leading. While a heart of flesh is a picture of submission and compliance. A heart that can feel, can enjoy and can be a welcome dwelling place for the Spirit of God.

God promises a new heart and a new spirit. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says a believer is a new creation in Christ Jesus. God promised a new nature, which would be taught in accordance with the truth in Jesus. In the new nature, you put off your old self, which is corrupted by deceitful desires and put on the new self, created to be like God, in true righteousness and holiness (Ephesians 4:21-24).

God also promises the indwelling Holy Spirit. The Spirit dwells in every believer (Romans 8:9) and is promised to fill the believer with special presence and power (Acts 1:5, 8) and help the believer obey God’s law.

Is this transformed life yours?

Change my heart O God, make it ever new, I pray.
