Let Him lead me to the banquet hall and let His banner over me be love. – Song of Solomon 2:4

Song of Solomon also known as the Song of Songs, is a superlative, meaning this is the best of all of Solomon’s works.| WATCH ON YOUTUBE

This lyric poem is written to extol the love between a husband and his wife. This poem clearly presents marriage as God’s design. A man and woman are to live together within the context of marriage, loving each other spiritually, emotionally, and physically.

The poetry takes the form of a dialogue between a husband (the king) and his wife (the Shulamite). This book is a literal depiction of marriage, there are some elements that foreshadow the Church and her relationship with her King, the Lord Jesus. Today’s verse describes the experience of every believer who is sought and bought by the Lord Jesus. We are in a place of great spiritual wealth and are covered by His love.

We live in a world that is confused about marriage. The increasing prevalence of divorce and modern attempts to redefine marriage are in sharp contrast to Solomon’s song. This biblical poet says that marriage is to be celebrated, enjoyed, and revered. It also gives some practical tips on strengthening one’s marriage.

This book reminds us to prioritize and know our spouse. Encouragement and not criticism is to be the watchword. We are to make it a priority to enjoy each other and delight in God’s gift of married love.  We are to renew our vows and work through problems. Divorce is not a solution. God intends marriage to be a place of deep secure love.

Lord, help me work at building my marriage and my spouse, I pray.
