Take the Offer (Ezekiel 18:1-32) SALVATION

For everyone belongs to me, the parent, as well as the child— both alike, belong to me. The one who sins is the one who will die. – Ezekiel 18:4

This chapter begins with God’s answer to a false proverb which says, the parents eat sour grapes, and the children’s teeth are set on edge (v2). The proverb was a protest, a complaint. The idea was that the present generation was being unjustly punished for what their fathers did. The one who eats the sour grapes should have the sour taste in their teeth.

But the fact is, God has authority over all, the parent and the child. And He promised to pronounce judgment over anyone who sinned because everyone belongs to God, the fathers as well as the children. None who should be punished for their sins would escape that judgment. God will deal with each one in justice and mercy.

God judges the heart of each individual and deals with each one according to their own faith. Salvation is offered to all. John 3:16 says whoever, believes in Jesus shall not perish but have everlasting life. Each of us has the option to accept Jesus’ offer of salvation and be adopted into God’s family and inherit a new nature.

And yet, sin is never private, it has consequences. Adam and Eve’s sin has marred all of us, we are all born with a sinful nature (Romans 3:23). The sins of the parents will affect the children. Those who grow up watching sinful behaviour are often likely to do the same in their own lives.

Have you taken Jesus’ offer or are you blaming others for your condition?

Lord, I accept you as my Savior today, in Jesus’ name.

The Lord continues to graciously warn us today from His Word and through the lives of people around us. Are we taking warning and repenting or are we rebellious too?
