So Solomon built the temple and completed it.1 Kings 6:14

David, Solomon’s father had wanted to build a great temple for God a generation earlier, but God had forbidden it because he was a man of war and had shed blood. The Lord said that Solomon his son was the one who would build the temple (1 Chronicles 28:3, 6). And God kept his word.

Solomon builds the house of the Lord, in Jerusalem on Mount Moriah. That was where the Lord had appeared to his father David, (2 Chronicles 3:1).

The new, stationary temple was to replace the portable tabernacle constructed during the wilderness wanderings. This temple was an extremely beautiful and ornate structure. The construction and dedication of Solomon’s temple are described in 1 Kings 6-8.

Interestingly, the Bible says, no hammer or chisel or any iron tool was heard in the temple while it was being built (v7). That’s quite amazing that a structure of that size was built so silently. This speaks of how God works in his people who are his Temple. Often, the greatest work in the Kingdom of God happens quietly.

Though David was more than willing and wanted to build the temple of the Lord, the Lord assigned that task to his son, Solomon. God has different tasks and roles for each of His children, and one cannot do what another is to do. Each of us is to do what God is uniquely calling us to do, not what someone else is doing. And as each of us do our respective parts, the Grand Weaver, weaves His beautiful design.

What is God calling you to do today?

Lord, help me to willingly obey you and do all that you call me to do, I pray.
