The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me? The Lord is with me; He is my helper. I look in triumph on my enemies. – Psalm 118:6-7
Fear is real.| WATCH ON YOUTUBE
All of us experience fear in one way or the other. And the Bible recognizes this reality. Throughout the Bible, we are continually encouraged not to be afraid.
One of the many reasons we are afraid is because our vision is limited. The truth is that God is on our side and is fighting powerfully on our behalf. And yet, we cannot see Him and so we, tend to live our lives by what we see rather than by faith. When challenges and troubles come our way, we focus on them, which we can see, rather than the Lord, whom we cannot see. And fear grips us.
The only way to fight fear is to know this God who is ever with us. We get to know Him when we read the Bible and pray regularly. The more we read the Bible, the more we know God. And the more we know God, the more we will be able to trust Him and so live a life directed by him.
The apostle Paul had his own times of fear. In Ephesians, he asks them to pray for him to fearlessly make known the gospel (Ephesians 6:1920). David had his fears too. And he said, when I am afraid, I will put my trust in you (Psalm 56:3).
Everyone has fears. When fear tends to grip you, would you like Paul, be willing to ask for prayer and, like David, choose to trust Him?
Lord, when I am afraid, help me put my trust in you, I pray.
