Where Is Your Trust? (Isaiah 9:1-7) KNOW YOUR GOD

For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Isaiah 9:6

In the days of King Ahaz of Judah, the people turned away from God. They even turned to occults to interpret their circumstances and future rather than to God. The law was very clear that the people of God were not to turn to mediums or spirits (Leviticus 19:31). And so, the Lord hid His face from Judah (8:17) but only for a season. God Himself gave His people the way they could come back to Him.

God used Isaiah to give His people hope. Isaiah prophesied the coming of the Lord Jesus seven hundred years before Christ was born. God so beautifully describes His Son. He is called Wonderful because of the miracles He would do. He is called Mighty God, speaking of His power and might. He is called Everlasting Father, reflecting that He was and is and remains our eternal Father, who cares and protects His people. And finally, the Prince of Peace, who brings peace to the world.

Young and old even today seek the world of the dead to find answers rather than turning to the living God. Ouija boards, tarot cards, astrology are just some such ways. When we turn to other sources for our solutions, it is sin. All sin has its roots in refusing to acknowledge God as the supreme authority in one’s life. Beware.

What or whom are you trusting with your life?

Forgive me, Lord, for the times I have trusted others rather than you, I pray.
