Walk the Talk (Matthew 23:1-12) WITNESS

So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. – Matthew 23:3

Jesus exposed the corruption, hypocrisy, and rebellion of the Pharisees. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

Jesus recognized and acknowledged the leadership of the teachers of the law and the Pharisees. And when their teaching followed the Law of Moses, the people were to obey. But Jesus warned the people not to imitate the example of the Pharisees because they did not live by God’s intention for His people. Their motives were all wrong. They did what they did for the love of praise. They enjoyed the best seats in the synagogue and the prestige of being called ‘Rabbi.’ They were hypocrites. And unless they saw themselves as they truly were before God they could never be saved.

The Lord Jesus warned against loving even the small privileges of leadership, which distract from serving and loving God and His people. To be great is to serve where you are needed the most, according to God’s will. God exalts those who humble themselves and become servants. He opposes all who exalt themselves (James 4:6).

We are also to be cautious when following leaders, when the leaders are blinded and are not walking their talk. Paul, though humble and fully aware of his own faults and limitations, was able to say in absolute confidence, follow my example as I follow the example of Christ (1 Corinthians 11:1).

Paul was extremely confident of his own way of life of self-denial, humility, and service that he was unafraid to present himself as a model for others to follow.

Can those you lead afford to follow you?

Lord, may I ever humbly reflect you in my walk, I pray.
