Your Thankful Best (Colossians 3:1-17) GRATITUDE

Published on Dec 15, 2025

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. – Colossians 3:17

Our lives are to be the natural overflow of a grateful heart. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

Paul begins this chapter exhorting the Colossians to put off the old man by setting their minds on things above. To put to death things that are against God and part of this world. They were to remove all traces of worldliness from them. And then, they were to put on the new man and live the life of a new man in Christ.

Every believer is a new creation and is chosen, holy and set apart unto God. And that knowledge is to cause us to live lives of gratitude to God. And so, whatever we do, word or deed, we are to do it unto God. Every word and deed, with no exception, is to be done unto Him, in complete dependence on Him. And this dependence is to be coupled with grateful hearts.

The new man lives all of his life for Christ and will persevere to what honours Him, even when difficult. A significant measure of our christian life is found simply in how we treat people. We are to show compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. We are to bear with one another and be quick to forgive (v12-13).

And so, in our work life, our families, our communities, in every situation and relationship, we are to reflect the fact that we are His children, by our utter dependence on Him and our hearts that display thankfulness.

Lord, may my thankfulness to you be seen in all I say and do, I pray.
