Life of Moses: 13 facts

One of the most prominent figures of the Old Testament, Moses was the man God called to bring redemption to His people from their slavery in Egypt. Moses was also known as the law giver of Israel and is considered the author of the Pentateuch. The Bible records repeatedly that Moses did everything just as the Lord commanded. What a testimony and an example to follow. Moses desired to see God’s glory (Exodus 33:18) and God agrees to reveal His goodness. God shelters him in the cleft of the rock.

  1. Moses meaning I drew him out of the water. (Exodus 2:10)
  2. Moses – son of Amram & Jochebed, brother of Aaron and Miriam was born during the time the Israelites were enslaved by the Egyptians (Exodus 6:20, Exodus 2:4)
  3. Moses was saved by the Pharaoh’s daughter, lived in the palace for the first forty years of his life, got the best training in Egypt’s palace.
  4. In his childhood, he was trained about his Israelite roots and his people from his mother. (Exodus 2:7-10, Exodus 2:11, Acts 7:23, Hebrew 11:24).
  5. He killed an Egyptian and ended up in the wilderness for the next forty years of his life (Exodus 2:15)
  6. God called Moses out of the burning bush, to lead His people, the Israelites, out of slavery (Exodus 3:4)
  7. Moses was not an eloquent speaker (Exodus 4:10-12)
  8. God used Moses to perform miracles before the Pharaoh (Exodus 7:14 12:36)
  9. Moses led the Israelites in the wilderness for forty years. Two million people who often grumbled against him and God.
  10. Moses interceded for the Israel. (Exodus 32:31-32, Exodus 33:12-16)
  11. Moses was known as the most humble man (Numbers 12:3)
  12. Moses did not go into the promised land because of one act of disobedience (Numbers 20:9-12)
  13. Moses is considered the author of the first five books of the Bible or the Pentateuch.
