Messed Up People: A Call to Shine

Published on Jul 28, 2023

Matthew 5:15 (NIV) – Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.

When all around is futility
And there is just no clarity
Where right and wrong
Is lost in the rising throng
That says everything is okay
Although all around is only decay
Where no one anymore takes a stand
Rather, everyone simply joins the band

The stench of messed up people
Reaches way above the steeple
And yet there is barely anybody
Who is willing to be that somebody
To step out of their busy life
And see the pain and strife
Of so many hurting people so close
Many a time right under their nose

The Church is His body they say
To be His Hands and feet each day
Yet when relationships seem so meaningless
And hurting people stand clueless
Wondering whatever to do
And now which way to go
Where this church, one is forced to ask
Is the body really there or is it just a mask?

In a world full of compromise
And absolutely no absolutes,
Where life rushes on at its maddening pace
Where values have lost their rightful place
As young people look around and say
Purity and obedience no more need to stay
Could He, my friend use you to be
His hands and His body

To be used by Him in any which way
That He may seem fit, every single day
To have no will of your own
All rights to your life to disown
That you would shine your little light
In this world’s darkness and night
So that when all is said and done
Your part played, the eternal crown won!
