So Joseph settled his father and his brothers in Egypt and gave them property in the best part of the land, the district of Rameses, as Pharaoh directed. Joseph also provided his father and his brothers and all his father’s household with food, according to the number of their children. Genesis 47:11-12

The famine in the land was very severe. There was no grain, no pasture for the herds and flocks. The situation was grim.
Now as the second-in-command of Egypt, Pharaoh had put Joseph in charge of the entire land and especially the distribution of grain during this long time of famine. And his brothers had come all the way from Canaan in search of food. Joseph was now the lord of Egypt and in control of all food. Joseph could easily have used the opportunity to get back at them.
But Joseph instead goes above and beyond what he needed to do. He forgives them. He is gracious to them. He provides the best he can for them. And in his position and the favour he enjoyed with the Pharaoh, his best was quite something. He was able to provide all of them property in the best portion of Egypt. He took care of their everyday needs of food and provision. Joseph gave food to those who harmed him and provided for them. (Proverbs 25:21-22)
Who needs your above-and-beyond today? To whom can you return good for evil? Like Joseph, you too can do it, by God’s grace.
Lord, help me to go above and beyond what is expected of me, even if it means with those who have hurt me, I pray.
