He who offers a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving honours Me. – Psalm 50:23

Sacrifice is to give up something that you want to keep, in order to get or do something else. In the above verse, the Lord clarifies that it is the one who offers Him a sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving that honours Him.

When life is tough, and tears seem ever ready to fall, you praise God, not necessarily for what you are going through, rather you praise God for who He is. You praise God because you recognize that God is more than able to see you through your situation, however tough and depressing it may seem.

A sacrifice of praise requires unflinching confidence in the one you praise. It requires that you move your eyes and thoughts from the storms of health, finance, relationships, that surround you, to the only One who can see you through these storms.

Offering praise and thanks when life is full of good things, barely involves sacrifice. Sacrifice is when you praise through the fears and pain. Sacrifice is when you praise God when all you want to do really is to give in to the emotions that seem to engulf. To trust that your God is bigger than all your problems, and so, to praise Him sure requires sacrifice.

In what situation of life do you require to turn your focus from the what to the who and praise Him?

Teach me, Lord, today to honour you with my praise and thanksgiving when I face tough situations, I pray.
