Do You Not Know? (Leviticus 15:1-33) HOLINESS

You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place, which is among them.’” – Leviticus 15:31

These two chapters deal with uncleanliness that comes from skin diseases and body discharges. But again, the crux of the matter is what is summarized in this verse. The Israelites were to separate themselves from things that make them unclean, so that they would not defile the Lord’s dwelling place, which was among them. The tabernacle with the presence of the Lord was with the people of Israel wherever they moved.

New Testament believers, however, don’t have a physical tabernacle that moves with us. But the Bible, in 1 Corinthians 6:19, reminds us, that our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit. Today the temple of God has moved from being outside, to the inside of each of us.

Jesus Christ, the perfect Lamb of God, died on the cross and paid the price for our sins. He died in our place. He paid the price of our sin with His blood. We have been bought with the blood of Christ. When you accept Christ as Lord and Saviour, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us. Our body becomes the place where the Holy Spirit dwells.

We owe our life, and all that we are, to Christ. We are not our own but called to live a life for Him, on His terms. A life that is separated, lives to please him and obeys him.

Does your life reflect that you are set apart for the Lord?

Cleanse me, Lord, today and make my heart a clean place for you to dwell, I pray.
