Saul was afraid of David because the Lord was with David but had departed from Saul. – 1 Samuel 18:12
David was the new blue-eyed boy, and everyone loved him. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
David’s trust in God enabled him to defeat Goliath, the huge, intimidating foe of Israel, in an epic combat. All of Israel was pleased with David. They sang his praises. Saul retained him in his army. And whatever mission Saul sent him on, David was so successful that Saul gave him a high rank in the army.
But sadly, it didn’t last very long. Soon enough, Saul, who was so relieved and grateful for the amazing victory, was bitten by the green-eyed monster. Jealousy raised its ugly head in Saul’s heart and he began to compare and resent the praise David received.
Over time, Saul also realized that the Lord was with David and no more with him. This caused Saul to fear David. And that fear kept David in the wilderness and caves until Saul died. And though David had the opportunity to kill Saul more than once, the Bible says in 1 Samuel 24 and 26, that David chose the high road. He chose to honour the anointed of the Lord and let the Lord deal with him.
When you do right before the Lord, expect to get noticed. One of the responses you get from people could be fear. And fear often causes people to be irrational and extreme in their thoughts and actions.
There could be people in your life whose behavior baffles you. Would you choose to take the high road, as David did, while you stay faithful in honoring the Lord and His Word?
Lord, help me honor you and trust you to deal with those who trouble me, I pray.
