She replied, “Do me a special favour. Since you have given me land in the Negev, give me also springs of water.” So, Caleb gave her the upper and lower springs. – Judges 1:15

Joshua is dead. The Israelites still have some battles to fight against the Canaanites. They seek the Lord and He gives them victory. As part of the land acquisition, Caleb promises to give his daughter Aksah in marriage to the man who captures Kiriath Sepher. Othniel his nephew does and marries Aksah. Aksah comes to Caleb and asks for a blessing (ESV).

Aksah’s request is a great example in prayer. When she came to meet her father Caleb, he asks her what she wants. Her answer is very simple and clear. She asks Caleb to give her the upper and the lower springs.

Aksah had thought through her request. She was humble and eager in her request. She did not hesitate because she knew she was talking to her father. Aksah was grateful for what she had received and used the past blessing as a reason to ask for more. Interestingly, Caleb does not criticize her request in any way but gave her what she asked for.

We have a Heavenly Father who knows and understands us, way more than any human father. We are called to come to Him with our specific prayers. God loves to hear us ask Him for what we want. He does not criticize or mock our prayers. We can approach Him humbly and yet with grateful and humble hearts.

Like Caleb asked Aksah, God is asking you today, what can I do for you?

Lord, help me to confidently come to you with my needs, I pray.

Beyond Ourselves (Psalm 102:1-28) LOVE

The poorest, the most difficult person, the most ignorant convert, every single one is precious to the Lord and so is to be precious to the church of God.
