But you have said, ‘I will surely make you prosper and will make your descendants like the sand of the sea, which cannot be counted.’” – Genesis 32:12

Jacob is scared. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE

When his men tell Jacob that Esau is on his way to meet him,  Jacob is petrified. And rightly so. And if that is not enough, Esau was not alone, he was coming with four hundred men. At the thought of meeting Esau, all the events of the past flash past his eyes in a matter of minutes. The many ways Jacob had deceived and wronged Esau, just came back in waves.

The description of the huge number of men with Esau scares Jacob. The circumstances are not favourable. Jacob is confused and has no clue how to handle the situation. But one thing he knows and does. He turns to God.

He turns to God and reminds Him of what He has said. Jacob knew his God well enough to know that he could turn to Him in times of need. He knew that his God was a God who kept His promises. He knew his God was faithful and true. So, he calls on the Lord in his time of trouble. He has not forgotten the promise that the Lord had given him. He claims the promise. He remembers and reminds the Lord of what He had promised.

God remains the same and is ever faithful to His Word and His promises, even today. Do you know Him and His Word to go to Him in confidence, when in trouble?

Lord, help me turn to you first and claim what you have said in your Word, I pray.
