David was thirty years old when he became king, and he reigned forty years. – 2 Samuel 5: 4
Run David, run. | WATCH ON YOUTUBE
This seems to have been the motto for many years of young David’s life. The youngest in his family, David, was a mere lad when Samuel anointed him king over Israel. David was but a teenager, when he was anointed. And yet, it was years later, at the age of thirty, that David finally ascends the throne of Israel. That was no short wait indeed. Nor was the wait easy.
David was on the run for many years from King Saul, who over time became jealous of him. For no fault of his, killing David became Saul’s mission in life. David was forced to live among the caves. The life of a fugitive was his lot, for a long time before he reached the throne of Israel. The Lord took David through many difficult situations and circumstances before he could be transitioned from shepherd to king.
And this is a pattern we see all through the Bible. Abraham waited twenty-five years for Isaac. Joseph thirteen years as a slave, before he became the second in command to the King of Egypt. Moses had forty years in the palace and forty in the wilderness before leading the Israelites out of Egypt. Paul had three years in Arabia before he started his ministry. There is a time of preparation between promise and actual fulfilment.
Are you asking, how much longer Lord, about the promises He has given you?
The Lord never fails or goes back on His promises. Trust Him and wait patiently for His perfect time.
Lord, thank you that you always keep your Word.
