Treasured Possession (Exodus 19:1-6) OBEDIENCE

Now if you obey me fully and keep my covenant, then out of all nations you will be my treasured possession.  Although the whole earth is mine. – Exodus 19:5

Even though the people of Israel grumbled and complained, the Lord remains forgiving, patient and faithful. He does not change. He is the same, yesterday, today and forever. God told Israel that they would be his treasured possession among all the nations. But there was a condition. They were to obey him fully

God’s people today, however, are not restricted to the nation of Israel but includes anyone who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ as Saviour. God’s people are from every tribe, every nation, and every tongue. Apostle Peter, in 1 Peter, 2:9, reminds us as believers that we are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation. And so, as Christians, we are called to obey God fully, as His treasured possession.

Obedience is an essential part of Christian faith. Jesus said, in John 14:15, “if you love me, keep my commandments”. We cannot call Him Lord, Lord and not do what He says to do (Luke 6:46). Obedience is submission to a higher power or authority. When we obey God through what He says in His Word, we show our love for Him. Partial obedience is disobedience. Delayed obedience is disobedience too.

God’s Word is His love letter to us, His children. It is our guide to obeying Him. Our obedience to Him through His Word reflects our love for Him. What is one area where you have only done the part that is convenient to you and avoided obeying Him fully?

Lord, please help me love you by obeying you fully, I pray.
