So Joshua said to the Israelites: “How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the Lord, the God of your ancestors, has given you? Joshua 18:3

The land of Canaan had been brought under the control of the Israelites. Allotments had been made to five out of the twelve tribes. The remaining seven tribes were yet to take possession of their inheritance. And they did not seem to be in any hurry.  Joshua asks them, how long are you going to sit around, putting off taking possession of the land that God, the God of your ancestors, has given you? The land had been fought for and won. Now all that was remaining was to go and take possession of it. And yet, the people are slack.

Joshua stirs them to action. He tells them to appoint three men from each tribe to make a survey of the land and write a description. Then he would cast lots before the Lord and assign the lands to the remaining tribes. Joshua is ready to do his part, if the people will do their part.

As Christians, you are given the title deed to the promises in the Bible that comforts, strengthens and directs our life on earth. But you need to believe in God and His promises. You need to move out of your own prison of unbelief, fear, doubt, worry etc. God is willing to do His part if you will do your part.

What will you do to take possession of one promise from God’s Word this week?

Lord, forgive my slackness. Help me believe and live by your promises, I pray.

Beyond Ourselves (Psalm 102:1-28) LOVE

The poorest, the most difficult person, the most ignorant convert, every single one is precious to the Lord and so is to be precious to the church of God.
